The History Behind The Wedding Cake

In our opinion, there is nothing quite as delicious (and satisfying), as a ganache filled, sponge textured, fruit centred; cake. Perhaps this explains why for many the wedding cake is still considered to be one of the most favoured and enjoyed traditions, of any nuptial celebration.

Since its arrival back in the Medieval ages, wedding cakes have symbolised good fortune and happiness; and when shared, are said to bring luck to all who eat them. The formal rituals see the bride cutting the first slice with help from her groom. It is considered the first task they perform as husband and wife and is reflective of their love, honour, unity and commitment.

So with such a great emphasis on this sweet spectacle, we believe that it is imperative that the ingredients used to create a couple’s intended vision, mirror the beauty of its design. Both elements are of equal importance; hence why this month we are dedicating our editorial feature to the unique artistry of Cakes by Krishanthi (CBK), for this London based brand encapsulates the notion, perfectly.

Cakes By Krishanthi Philosophy

Founded more than a decade ago, Cakes by Krishanthi prides itself on delivering distinctly designed desserts, which are both delightful to view and delectable to taste. Operating as a family run business ensures that founder, Krishanthi Armitt, remains at the heart of each stage of the cake making process. Her watchful eye ensures that quality craftsmanship is ever prevalent in the delectable delights that are handmade for both joyous celebrations and Londons most prestigious dessert tables.

The Creative Process

From the initial enquiry to the completion of the cake itself, newlyweds work in collaboration with the CBK team. This skilled band of bakers are on hand to ensure the cake selection process, is met with ease and enjoyment.

Krishanthi first welcomes couples to meet with her for an initial artistic consultation. Here is where ideas circulate, previous examples unveil themselves and photographs from her extensive portfolio presents themselves in the form of a keepsake brochure. The intention is to provide couples with the inspiration and information they need so that they can confidently choose a design that reflects each of their personalities and their wedding venue.

Flavour Experimentation

Next, Krishanthi turns her attention to taste. Each of her sweets is laden with the finest organic, fair trade and free-range ingredients and the studio is renowned for being one of the few still practising traditional artisan baking techniques.

CBK encourage couples to experiment with flavours, fillings and textures. Elements, which represent their culture and shared tastes (no pun intended!) Together these minuscule details are whisked up to add a heightened level of personalisation, to the final creation.

Completion & Delivery

Krishanthi and her team stay in close contact with couples as the vision unfolds in their studio and the wedding date draws closer. Upon completion, the team will personally deliver the cake to bestow finishing touches and ensure the completed creation is beautifully composed to achieve the most profound impact.

Final Details

Depending on the specifications and intricacy of the wedding cake design, the entire process can take up to a maximum of six months to complete and with the brand's extensive client base and growing social following, we would recommend that couples contact the team, soon after setting a date.

Those seeking exquisite detailing, delectable flavours and a dedicated service need look no further. Cakes by Krishanthi offers the ultimate in artisanal cake experiences and is the reason they will forever be one of our favourites!
